Sober for October?

Alcoholism is nothing to do with the amount that you drink - it's about your relationship with alcohol.

And I think that if you drink alcohol for the sole reason it's free and you're in the environment, then a careful look at that relationship is required.

Totally - but your liver doesn't care about your relationship with alcohol, or your tolerance for it. If you drink 5 pints a day because you are addicted or because of <reasons> and even if you can function normally on 5 pints - whatever the reason you are drinking 5 pints, your liver doesn't care. It processes them just the same. And if it's too much for your body then you will be hurting yourself - maybe building the start of liver cancer.

It's great to not be an alcoholic, to be able to give it up whenever you want. But if you don't give it up or cut down, it will hurt you the same as if you couldn't.

The difference is between knowing your drinking habits are harmful and stopping. Vs knowing they are harming you and being unable to stop due to your relationship.

Of course the alcohol does the same damage, but at least with a healthy relationship with the substance in your control. You have the ability to mitigate or stop the damage. Somebody who is struggling with alcohol dependency cannot.

Shouldn't be too difficult for me. Hardly touch the stuff these days. I've even been known to offer to drive on the few occasions we've gone out for a meal as the thought of beers with a good scoff no longer interests me that much.

If it's a sesh then that is different, but even those are few and far between nowadays. I think it's the thought of the day after that puts me off. Nothing worse than feeling crap for a day or even two after the event.

The thought of going for a ride fills me with dread the day after. I remember playing footie with a hangover (it was quite a few years ago) Didn't even get to half time before I'd barfed behind the opponents goal, much to the amusement of my team mates. The keeper wasn't too pleased as the splatter almost covered his water bottle!

this hasn't had enough love yet

Be careful being smug about quinoa. Apparently the Peruvians can't afford to eat it any more, because of how much Hampstead residents are willing to pay. Couscous and bulgur aren't so perfect nutritionally, but much better morally.

I don't actually eat quinoa, have you seen how much it costs??? Much prefer cous cous. And I did know about the effect quinoa's success has had on the locals, which is really sad.
