Go everywhere on your bike?

the ironic thing was last time I saw a speed trap in operation I was on my bike, and first of all I couldnt work out why people were flashing their lights coming towards me, but I think the traffic was a bit heavier than normal, so drivers were struggling more to overtake me, so ultimately I was literally slowing everyone down, so they kept to the speed limit as they all passed , or low enough not to be prosecuted. no doubt they feed those numbers in to their computer say speeding no problem here & never come back.

next day no speed trap, and everyones doing 40mph again in the 30 limit in the same spot.

infact it surprised me more on the day of the speed trap, I was surprised how quickly drivers went from speeding to speed limit then back to speeding again 20metres beyond the police van, it was like surely youve just noticed you might have escaped that one, why are you ignoring that wake up call ?

but there you go it never ceases to amaze me when they publish the figures in Suffolk of the fixed cameras, on the A12 in Dedham vale, its a 70mph limit, it catches roughly 1000 drivers per month.

I LMAO at the "we need more speed to get out of trouble" merchants.

There is no scenario where flinging yourself even faster towards danger makes you safer.

You need to meet my uncle, a geriatric boyracer who comes up with never-ending nonsense to justify driving fast and believes things like people who drive for a living should be exempt from speed limits as they've got things to do and shouldn't be held up.

He's always giving out about a woman who lives near him who walks her dog on his (rural) road as it's dangerous and she deserves to be fined. I always ask him to remind me how many people in the toad get killed by dangerous dog walkers in the average year. Still waiting for an answer.

No, but there are scenarios (not many), where you can accelerate away from the danger.

But they really are very few indeed, and certainly nowhere near enough to justify those sorts of comments.

My village WhatsApp group is full of this. I wouldn't exactly say that it boils my piss, but it's a bit depressing that my neighbours do this.

The most worrying thing to me is that you'd not only have to be speeding, but you'd have to be remarkably inattentive not to spot the mobile camera vans at the places they're typically located around here.

There is a surefire way of making sure you don't get caught...

They're wrong for a start. Multiple studies around the world has shown no link between police visibility and crime levels.

As for the revenue raising aspect, well, its entirely up to them whether or not they choose to make a deposit to that particular bank.

In any case, why the fuss? Every force website lists the camera locations for the week, in many cases local radio and the local chipwrapper will give that days locations, so why have a whatsshat group for information that is so freely available anyway?

His point is that if he comes round a corner and suddenly sees her walking her dog and has to take avoiding action
then that is far far more likely to cause a crash
which clearly she and her dog have caused

same for cyclists

and people driving at 50 in the middle lane of a motorway to pass a lorry doing 40

the gaping chasms in the argument seem to go beyond their ability to notice

Then hes wrong right from the off.

If he cant see round the corner then he should reduce his speed to a level whereby he can stop within the distance he can actually see. He shouldn't be hurtling round and then have to take avoiding action because of a sudden, but utterly predicatable, old biddy with a dog.

I'm my 30 years driving I've never once needed to accelerate passed (or come close to) the speed limit to avoid a collision. Any collision avoidance has involved steering and/or braking....or not letting my wife drive
Actually she's a far better, more observant and safer driver than I am

Just come back from Runcorn over the old bridge and its approach roads in Widnes

the speed limit on there is 30 - on a wide single carriageway road - partly due to the old bridge that it feeds

but "everyone knows" that the speed limit "should be " much higher
so when I travel along at 30 I often get people driving up close behind me - some of them looking annoyed

so far I have only had one or tow overtake me - but I expect that number to rise as time goes by!

I agree 100% but you would never make him see it that way. People walking and cycling make the roads dangerous, allegedly.
