And what are those real world scenarios?

In 25 years of driving, I have never found myself in a situation where I had to accelerate out of danger.

Maybe I'm doing something wrong.

That's easy... speeding away from explosions, fleeing erupting volcanos, evading gunfire. I could think of some more.
No matter what car you're driving you can't outrun an explosion or a bullet. There is hardly ever a reason to run from an erupting volcano - scientists walk all over them during eruptions and they hardly ever die. Next!

Pyroclastic flow is a reason to run , well i say a reason but you'd rarely out sprint one.

I know but when people write/talk complete ball cocks I tend to respond in a like manner ^_^

I have been up Mount Stromboli (to install a lightning detector) but took comfort in the fact that a group of scientists and technicians came with me so I felt confident it wasn't ready to erupt :hyper:

Like I said, they are very rare indeed.

Hypothetically, if a car is coming out of a side road, going to hit your rear passenger door if you do nothing, hit your door if you brake, hit behind any doors if you floor it.

I have never encountered a situation where it would have helped, in 45 years of driving. But they do exist.
