Send it back. End of.

Yep. Bent hanger, iffy chain, bodged up after transit damage? Ex demo? What else? I'd want a refund or complete new bike.

Sorry to hear that Sam.

I'd stick with the bike but double check everything else first especially the tricky bits like headset and the cranks.

Then get some form of compo from the outlet concerned - some tyres and inner tubes etc would be nice.

If not - the internet is a powerful tool.

Don't think anyone else has mentioned it, but another factor to take on board. Riding a new bike with an old worn chain will have in turn accelerated the wear on your cassette, jockey wheels and chain rings. Not by a massive amount, but if you'd continued riding that bike without keeping on top of the wear on the chain, you'd be looking at new cassette. rings etc.

I'd send it back.

My bike was bought from a shop in Wales, never had any issues with it, shop were very helpful and it was set up perfectly for me, if i was you I would be sending it back straight away with those issues, demanding a replacement and also getting them to pay for it to be returned, you pay for something whether it's cash,cc or finance your still paying for a product, that product should be 100% when you recieve it.

Best of luck with it, hope you get sorted out mate.

The bike is a Cannondale right? Well Evans Cycles are Cannondale retailers and also offer finance. I have bought 2 Cannondale bikes from them (not on finance, however) and after sales service has been very efficient with the retailer manufacturer pairing.

Okay, update and thanks again people.

I've spoken to the retailer - the manager - who has immediately agreed to have the bike picked up from the LBS, will pay over the phone for LBS to box up and will be looking into the issues when the original gets back to him. He will get back to me and has also, within 15 minutes of the original conversation this morning with him, ordered another bike and got back to me to tell me this.

I also asked for some in store vouchers and he has given me an assurance that he will make sure the new bike is looked over properly. The new bike should be with me by the end of next week.

Yes, maybe in retrospect I should have used another firm but you live and learn and all I want is what I paid for...

Thanks again folks, you really are a splendid bunch.

OKay, thanks for the replies. Sending it back seems quite extreme and will be a lot of hassle and at the moment it is in the LBS at Weston Super Mare, where it will be repaired, checked over and the bill sent to the people I bought from - due to whom I bought from, they are the other end of the country.

Does this sound like the right way to go instead, or should I send it back and complain direct to Cannondale about the state of the bike?

No reason you cant do both. Get it repaired at their cost so you have the working bike you want, then once it's all set write/email Cannondale telling them about your dissatisfaction.

Suggestions of sending the whole thing back are equally suitable, but I know if it was me I wouldn't want to after finally getting a new bike  If however, they were refusing to pay the complete and full cost of the repairs to get it as new, then I would send it back.

Thanks fella, they've agreed to send me a new bike and pick up the bill from the LBS...with some vouchers.
