Our plan for the day does include a 'drop in' option. Between ceremony and reception, we intend to go to the NRM to look at trains and have tea. All and sundry are welcome to come too (at their own expense, we can't manage 3000 cups of tea at Museum prices!), and say hello. A sort of guerilla flashmob reception. We just hope the NRM will still be open, and free, by then!

Someone on the radio the other day said that the chances of a marriage surviving were inversely proportional to the amount spent on the wedding.
Also couples who meet on the internet (other forums are available) have happier relationships then couples who meet by other means ie; via family and friend introductions, bars and clubs, and at work.

I think that's a brilliant idea. Wish we'd done something like that instead of the ridiculous pomp and ceremony my mother insisted on.

Yes, it was the best way we could think of for inviting all the random people we know (in the interweb sense) who wouldn't normally be invited to a costly reception or the wedding itself.

However, all the people at the reception will, hopefully, be contributing a thing or a skill to make it all happen. That is better, and more cost effective all round, then giving us wedding presents that we may not need or want (however, I wouldn't say no to an ICE Vortex though).

Part of what appeals to me is that we can be in control, but not overly stressed by it. Minimal people at the nervewracking ceremony bit, get that over with, then have an enjoyable day. The evening venue will be the place I work at, and I'm planning to ask workmates (who will all be guests) to help with the organising and catering, by bringing stuff, just as we'd do for a work social. As NT says, we don't need any more toasters etc, so a big bowl of pasta salad, or a plate of sausage rolls is a much better present.

We're not fussed about decor or a big fancy cake, or anything fashionable. Although we do fancy a tiered cake of cheese and pork pie...
