Thanks everyone - it does help to talk about it here.

I think the thing that angers/hurts the most is the intent. I really can't fathom any other explanation than he was purposely trying to hit me.

Hoping to wake up tomorrow with a different perspective on this, because at the moment the thought of it just enrages me.

Dodd82, I think I know exactly where you are coming from with this -unfortunately I had an experience many years ago that made me think/react exactly the same way you are. You're completely mystified (and very upset) why someone would do this. It defies belief -and most distressingly you can't comprehend why someone would be so completely nasty to do this so randomly.

The answer is simple: because they're an unhappy bullying pr*ck with a power complex.

Time will heal this -that and the fact that the vast majority of people on the road are good. Really sorry to hear you experienced this. And while I don't believe in the "karma" thing, I do believe that people like this are fundamentally very unhappy and are probably living in misery (I mean, why would they do it unless they are completely peed off about something?). They will more than likely repeat their behaviour until eventually they meet someone who will really make their life much more unhappy. Leave them to it.

Here for rides.
Oh yeah. These people exist. You can cycle as defensively as you like, take primary, use all type of lights, etc., etc. but some feckin idiots still like to push cyclists around on the road. They are few and far between but they are out there. Glad you are OK and I hope the next time is a long, long way off. You are still better cycling than sitting in a tin box. I actually think the pricks are jealous most of the time.
dodd82 do you sing? do you have a favourite song that unfailling cheers you up?

I do. When I meet a nobber like the one you met I start singing because I've found in the past that my -ve reactions to this type of incident just eat me up, ruin my day, make me lose sleep and, most importantly, make me slightly fearful about getting on the bike again later or tomorrow. And remember it isn't you or your fault, regardless of who wss on that bike and how it was ridden a nobber in a car is a nobber in a big heavy tin box with a sense of invulnerability.

Work colleagues know my little repertoire of cheer-me-ups and know that if I'm singing when I get in it has probably been a commute with an incident.

OK, the nurses say it is now time to take my meds.

Something happened to me today too. I was climbing Carlisle Road in Buxton. It's an epically wide suburban road. I had to take the centre of the lane because of wet leaves plastered to the road on the left which was making the rear tyre slip. I get a beep from behind from a Mitsubishi L200 pickup. I look round, steady my line and keep going. He passed and then cut in hard, braking as he did so, before accelerating off.

What a knob. I was not endangering him, yet he saw fit to do the exactly that to me. With a pickup truck. He clearly had no appreciation that I could not take the extreme left line.

I muttered 'close pass' and let him beetle off. I could have got the plate, but what's the bloody point?

Sorry to hear about your incident doctornige, but it's a very small world especially if have something like an L200.

I am a member of the L200 owners club and would have no hesitation in cross posting this on there including a reg number if one was available, because someone may know the owner and have no doubt he would get slated and abused for behaviour of that nature....

so always get the reg number, it may save someone's life in the future, because if knob's like this are allowed to get away with it once, they will do it again and maybe with different consequences for another cyclist...

Aye. I know it's a small world. I drive a Range Rover L322. Unlike many on this forum I do like a massive 4x4. I nearly went for a Hilux D4D Invincible but was put off by the difficulty in finding a tidy used one, and by the cart springs on the back.

Thanks - appreciate the comments... it still winds me up when I think about it, so am just going to put it to the back of my mind and forget about it.

Part of me hopes I see them again though. I have mixed views as to whether I'd remain calm and record the registration plate or lose my temper and smash the crap out of the car

haha - love the suggestion.

If you'd heard me sing though, you'd probably suggest that me breaking into song would actually justify the driver reversing and having another go... I really am that bad!

LOL, that one is not mine. ;)

You can search for mine if you look for Sonja Andrew zero sixer Yahoo Hodgepodge Brian. I'd prefer no-one to link it directly though, and I've purposefully not used the standard phonetic alphabet or the registration in clear.

You could always whistle....^_^
When you're chewing on life's gristle
Don't grumble, give a whistle
And this'll help things turn out for the best...
And...always look on the bright side of life...
Always look on the light side of life...

What struck me about this clip was how little the lorry missed you by. Was this an entirely safe manoeuvre on your part. Obviously the BMW was driving like a git. Did the BMW force this move or does it just look like the lorry missed you by less than it actually did. Also was the beeping from the BMW or the lorry?

some people are thoughtless morons. there's any number of possibilities from some chav showing off to its cretin mates, to some nonentity having a bad day and wanting a feel of being powerful just for a moment, to the next Kenneth Noye if you'd reacted differently.

Frankly it doesn't matter. You've made it clear that you don't know who they are, I'm guessing from the description of the road, no CCTV to help you trace them. One of those incredibly rare (1 in 20+ years almost daily riding for me) s**t happens moments. You will have to come to terms with it and move on or it will mess with your head until you climb off the bike and never get back on.

I completely know what you mean...have had an ongoing incident with a young chap in a car for the last few weeks. Up until now have been trying to be the better person and not succumb to the urge to give him what for. I work in a school though and have spent time trying to fit a rounders bat into my bottle cage (just in case)...only joking of course

Here's a bad one I'd forgotten about. Not me:

I loved his choice of words in response. Looking at that it didn't look like he (I am assuming it was a man) altered his position one bit to give him any room.
Also I am puzzled by the great big blue thing that seems to take up the entire top half of the clip. I've never seen anything like it here.

There is no point as the cops don't give a fig, the nasty party in power don't give a fig as they are cutting thousands of police posts so even fewer of them to deal with crime. This sort of the thing is becoming an occupational hazard rather than treated as an offence.

The only solution is to get one of these.
