This is true according to my neighbour, who is a PC. Blackburn with Darwen will typically have 4 to 6 Police on duty on any night.

Unfortunately, there seems to be a lack of officers locally, so I wouldn't hesitate to go out and stop them taking my property. I've had two attempts on my garage, one carefully removed a pane of glass without breaking it, but the window was barred by multiple roofing straps (hard to cut) bolted into the frame and bricks. The next attempt was by a couple of lads on a scooter trying to prise the main door (too many locks) who I saw. The shot off, only to return a little later, but I was still up.

I would like to say I'd give them a good hiding with my 1/2" metal breaker bar but who knows at the time..

There was a spate of shed breakins down my way a fair few years back, it go dealt with "in house" so to speak by a few of the locals.. Police were no use.

Depends which bike it was.

There's only a Couple of old kids bikes and a bso in my shed. They are welcome to take them save me a trip to the tip.

My real machine lives in the house under lock and key or 3

Mine lives in the house but when my Son gets his new bike it will be in the shed so may have to review security again (ground anchor in concrete base with a good lock).

Thing to remember is whilst you don't know what they'd do, they're in the same situation. They'll have come expecting no-one to bother them.

Someone showing up may well be the last thing they expected. Even if all you do is shout. Or just say it's an odd time to be out to them.

My first reaction would be to sling open the window and shout OIIII, FARK OFF as loud as I could.

While it's not the advisable thing to do I don't think I could hold my tongue in that moment. I also suspect any thief wants as little fuss as possible, a quick in and out, minimal risk. Balling out at him is probably enough to either scare him momentarily or alert others in the neighbourhood.
And of course, let the police know someone's up to no good but similarly to above, police are a rare sight here so I don't suppose a shed burglar is going to instantly warrant blues and twos and a posse of the cops.

Wooden martial arts sword sits next to the bed , i wonder if bit of tai chi sword form will scare them? i do have a 6 foot staff in the loft but thats a bit out of the way in an emergency .
