I'm not sure if this is a new thing or not, but I have recently noted that people seem to have a need to use a word and another word together as if it makes what they are saying more authoritative.

I'm thinking of things like "Strong and Stable" (T. May - or "weak and wobbly") "Right and Proper" (a favourite of N. Sturgeon) and "Robust and Transparent" (some twat at work) - you know the kind of thing.

Is it new? Or it something that has only recently started to grate on my nerves?

Reaching out is anyone me at the moment. I don't reach out, I speak to people.

I've noticed it a lot on some supermarket stuff - apples are crisp and crunch, cheese is tangy and rich, etc etc

That doesn't piss me off as much as 'reaching out' does though (like @Drago said). I didn't reach out to you, I emailed you (or texted you, or whatever!)
