I remember a very surreal experience when I was visiting Theresienstadt concentration camp near Prague and was in a bunch of people, including an Israeli couple who were clearly making some kind of family pilgrimage.
Anyway, this fat redneck American man turned to the Sabra woman and said to her, "every day I wake up and thank God that I'm a man, I'm white and an American." (You have to imagine the thick American accent for that one).
the Israeli woman looked suitably nonplussed, as did I and my friend who overheard, but we spent the rest of the day walking around saying "every day I wake up I thank God that I'm NOT an American."
