This is the sort of shite that really pees me off about new technology, instead of things getting easier and more convenient it gets more and more complicated and harder and much more hassle to use.
In my day drag and drop meant dragging a record out of the rack and gently dropping the stylus into the groove, it worked first time every time!
Progress......pah!!

Exactly. If they would stop bolloxing about "improving" things it wouldn't be so bad. I was just getting to grips with how to do stuff on Windows XP when Mr Gates decided that wasn't good enough and that they weren't supporting it any more - so here is the new improved Windows 10... Which as far as I can see does nothing any better than XP but is far less user friendly, as evidenced with today and last night's experience with that MP3 player.

It's a shame as Sony are normally pretty good at this sort of stuff, the one I had you could get everything going OK but it's just wouldn't sync a bunch of tracks without crashing, I can't tell you how many time I swore.

Hardware, yes; software, not so much. The old players of theirs I have came bundled with their Sonic Stage software, which had a well-deserved reputation for being absolute and utter shite - really flakey, to the point of virtual unusuability. Which was a shame, because the players themselves are wonderful.

Nice in the hand, great sound quality, and solid as a rock.
(Fortunately, as mentioned upthread, some enthusiast came up with a Java-based alternative to Sonic Stage, which works really well.)

An update......
I was in Maplin's earlier today, and after a chat with staff in there, I decided to buy another identical version of this MP3 player (no-one else makes one the right size, and it looks good).
I downloaded Sony's "Media Go" software, which was quite straightforward as it automatically found all my music files. Plugged in the MP3 player, followed the simple steps for uploading to the player, and ...... NOTHING! The computer says the files are on the MP3 player; the player says they aren't.
Anyway, a few frustrating hours on a wet (thankfully) Saturday afternoon, and I messed about with the encoding settings and finally got it to work :wahhey:. Now I can fill it with music, put it in a drawer, and forget about it :okay:.
