Unless they're doing an LEL-style route including sections on some fairly unpleasant A-roads (which might be fairly amusing to see how a police escort vehicle handles the types of nobber motorists infesting them), it's basically given us the route, hasn't it? I think 445 miles is roughly the shortest one: Edinburgh-Carlisle-Settle-Bradford-Sheffield-Watford Gap-London.

This reminds me of the time when Davina McCall (true ITV royalty, not this made up Wessex lark) cycled through Glossop on her swimming/cycling/running challenge.
I thought it would be nice to ride along with her and the guy she was cycling with for a while to keep her company. Not a bit of it. I wasn't allowed to get within about 30m of the great Davina without being blocked by some Police security twonk. So I just rode along in the queue of cars behind until I realised it was rubbish so I went home
