He didn't even look that close, and now we have another motorist who (even if wrongly) thinks all cyclists are aggressive and aggrieved.

As my daughters would say.....CHILLLLLLAAAAAAAXXXXX

I don't particularly want to start another argument but the stats are meaningless. As gb155 says in a city centre it's far worse but that's also not the point. I would imagine that the majority of what you are counting as a close pass I would count as a normal overtake on the A2 into London. Same with Smidsy, if I'm not actually alongside them and still braking, I tend to let them go. As I said I don't want another argument to start over these comments but I feel they need to be considered.

I'd add to that. It will be bad for you if you keep counting.

Keeping stats like that rings of OCD and each count is evidence of you winding yourself up daily. Neither your mental nor physical health is likely to stand up to that long term (thinking High BP, ulcers, etc etc).

We all get near passes etc all the time. After a while I found shouting tosser and waving my fist gets it off my chest, without harm - as the drivers probably don't notice my fist/shout any more than they did the whole bike & rider! I would only confront a motorist if the incident was very, very serious or they decided to get mouthy with me first.

While you are on YouTube, look up Les Crane - Desiderata and have a good listen, you will benefit fom it.

You seem like a nice earnest young man - don't let the world grind you down.:banghead:

Agreed. If you want to start an argument, wait until you get home please.

My guess is that all you're doing is giving the rest of us a bad name by re-inforcing the stereotype these idiots have of cyclists.

Some drivers are great. Some are stupid. Unfortunately the stupid ones won't learn. A couple of years ago I ended up on a 'driver improvement' course following an accident where I was stationary and hit by a motorbike (he did as well!). For me it helped a lot - I'd picked up some bad habits without realising. There were about 15 others there - two-thirds only saw it as a way to avoid going to court.

They won't learn. All the Lotus driver will do is blame the annoying bike-rider who got in his way.

....... Don't you think the problem may be staring you in the face (or the mirror) as surely, no one half-decent cyclist could have this many incidents and not adapt to avoid such situations occuring on such a regular basis. If I were you I would seriously consider parking my bike up for good.

....... I really can't be ars*d reading any more of the drivel you are generating.....

I think this is pretty unnecessary and unhelpful TBH. Perhaps you could do with a bit of the kalma that is being recommended too!!!

I was hoping that as he drove a nice car, he would take a bit more care in operating it. I was clearly wrong and just got a score of abuse from him. I didn't expect him to be up his own arse about everything.
Yes, you discovered the truth. Such cars are, in the main, penis extensions, fuelled by testosterone and driven by d;ckheads.

Put it this way; I know of a media personality who drives a car like that and shows little regard for cyclists, or anyone other than himself and his boss (aka his penis).

Yeah, maybe leave the bike at home for a day or two and walk so you've calmed down. You could always keep your helmet cam on in case of aggressive push chair chavs or pesky skateboarders :-)

One day you are going to be the OP of a thread entitled 'Broken Jaw and extensive bruising, please recommend a good solicitor' Either stop filming or just upload and report, don't go antagonising motorists. It is often pointed out that they are the ones in 2 tonnes of steel as opposed to 1kg of carbon.

I know its been posted several times above but seriously mate, stop chasing them down.

The odds are, one day, you WILL meet a numpty who will assault you.

Use that anger on the next hill or sprint to the lamp-post !!

I used to get very angry whilst out cycling, waving my arms, hand gestures at drivers and after a while I realised my own attitude and frustration was hurting no one except me! It was ME that spoiled what should have been a lovely bike ride, it was ME that spent the rest of the day in a bad mood and it was ME that was putting myself at risk of a "punch in the face or worse. So now I just do as the other posts suggest, take a deep breath, ignore it and carry on, far more relaxing, safer, and you go home with a nice big smile on your face.

Matt - you need to get control of the testosterone - I know it's new to you youngsters, but a squeaky 17 year old going up to a driver and telling them about their driving, won't go down well.

I understand the OP's reluctance to give up the chase. It reminds me of giving up smoking. It wasn't until someone pointed out that the fags were my friends and that I should pack them in and start to make real friends that I took some action.

What bothers me most about this thread is how mean spirited people can be towards the victim of an aggressive driver. Yes Matt did not react well, but that does not big anyone the right to call him names, recommend he stop posting, give up cycling, or take drugs.

Matt be very careful when you approach the unknown that is a driver. You just have no idea what they are capable of, think of yourself first, your safety is more important.
Feel free to report the incident to Police well in the knowledge that most likely nothing is going to happen. Feel free to put the video on youtube or vent on a cycling forum, well in the knowledge that people will disagree with you and some low life will abuse you.

More than anything make ever effort to enjoy the ride.
