Lot of sound advice and experience on this thread. I dont class a near miss unless I have been nearly clipped by the wing mirror which has not happened in the last 5yrs now since I have changed my route to work and shift change. My worst experience on the bike was when an 18t wagon pulled out of a junction as I was passing and I had to pushed myself away from the front grill with my left hand. It was only then when he saw my floresent helmet cover that he stopped. Thats the only time I have really let rip with a driver....

I can ignore 99% of passes which are not worth confronting. There is a lot of bad driving out there especially in the rush hour's (stress hours) of traffic. If you are looking out for confrontation you will find it very easily especially in this day and age.
Put it down to experience and learn from it and think to yourself " how can I avoid this situation in the future". There is always a solution to a problem to make your cycling from A to B a pleasure........
Have a great xmas and safe riding for 2012:bicycle:

+1 The other factor is that I still have a clear memory of the first few rides on busy roads and how vulnerable I felt, cars and lorries seemed really close, maybe this is playing a part. What seemed like close passes 18 months ago go without notice now.

Yes. I have already started to notice I am dismissing some of the close passes I wouldnt have a few months ago now. It comes with experience and getting used to the driving around you.

That is probably something I will understand in the future. I will get used to the drivers in Rhyl and end up just having it as the norm when someone passes me closely.

Thanks guys for the feedback. There is a lot of good advice being given and I will try to follow as much of it as possible. I think the ideas I am getting in conclusion are these:
  1. Take a very strong primary and don't let any room for someone to be a nutter and make very strong shoulder checks.
  2. Don't go chasing down drivers, or chase them down but don't confront them. Take the anger out in the ride and make a faster time.
  3. Calm down and take a deep breathe when you encounter any type of bad driving.
  4. Enjoy the ride and don't let anyone spoil it.

Grazie, I'm off now to do something constructive - commuting and CC for me is beyond repair, beyong respite for making it welcoming again, but more importantly communting is lost and not found. In that I become lost in it and cannot find myself, even in the flickers of light in this dark depressing malevolent times on our roads, It is impossbile not to see the comparatives between these and the commuting section of CC.

My final thoughts on this dilemma are.... Kenneth Noye.

Kenneth Noye killed, notably a police detective, without being found guilty.

But I thought that he was eventually found guilty of a road-rage murder. It now seems that there was a connection with the deceased after all.

Ah, yes, you're right. It seems that the counsels decided between themselves to keep quiet the fact that there was already a drug dealing connection between them so it looked like a road rage case, and the connection only emerged later. You certainly wouldn't want to get in an argument with a psycho like that, though, as you say.
