Lot of sound advice and experience on this thread. I dont class a near miss unless I have been nearly clipped by the wing mirror which has not happened in the last 5yrs now since I have changed my route to work and shift change. My worst experience on the bike was when an 18t wagon pulled out of a junction as I was passing and I had to pushed myself away from the front grill with my left hand. It was only then when he saw my floresent helmet cover that he stopped. Thats the only time I have really let rip with a driver....
I can ignore 99% of passes which are not worth confronting. There is a lot of bad driving out there especially in the rush hour's (stress hours) of traffic. If you are looking out for confrontation you will find it very easily especially in this day and age.
Put it down to experience and learn from it and think to yourself " how can I avoid this situation in the future". There is always a solution to a problem to make your cycling from A to B a pleasure........
Have a great xmas and safe riding for 2012
