FNRttC Southend Ride Friday 10th March 2017

A bus driver decided that he didn't like me cycling in the roadway so he decided to use his vehicle to try push me off the road. Shouting ensued just as a police car was passing. Cop in car ("I'm a traffic cop and a cyclist") just didn't want to know.

Glad to hear you weren't injured.

Bizarrely felt fine and awake through most of Saturday, but didn't half crash early into the evening!!

I generally have no problem staying awake on the Saturday, but at about 6 or 7pm I get the most amazing rush that lasts about two hours after which I crash big time.

It was a very deliberate, outrageous, and threatening piece of driving in a fecking great double-decker bus. My regret is that I was persuaded to move out of the way during the conversation with the police officers, which allowed the bus driver to make off scot free.

Did anyone get the plate ? Don't all London buses have video cameras recording now ?

I am so sorry, I was watching the driver's face and became convinced he was going to move forward on you.

I was pretty confident he wouldn't dare in full view of a polis car.

Except the police officers never looked at him, not even once.

ETA: If one or both officers had got out of the car, the bus driver might have taken the whole thing seriously. As it was, he knew the officers didn't give a damn.

They would have looked in response to the screams. They wouldn't have actually seen it happen. Because they weren't looking back at him, only at us.

Adam said afterwards he wished he'd thought to get badge numbers. I didn't think of it either, even with my head right up in the window trying to get that young officer to view us as human beings.

A little more info....

Firstly my route. In future I'll get more advice from those who know, but I made my return based on Sustrans and points of interest. What I should have done was taken @ianrauk route out of Sarfend and then dropped down to the ferry at Tilbury. Then I should of have got @Trickedem route to Whitstable. However such is the folly of the inexperienced. Next time I'll start with a map and work from there rather than plotting software!

I think your route through Medway was great. We never get a chance to go through Upnor on the FNRTTC, because of time pressures, so you got to visit one of the prettiest villages in England.

Thanks, it WAS Burnham on Crouch in MARCH 2014!!!

Somehow it had been erased from my mind, but looking at photos of Burnham on 'tinternet I recognise this:

and....

So, I had been to J31 before, but had completely forgotton Burnham conflating it with Whitstable!
