I did Holme Moss a few years ago, I just remember it being very long.
It's hard because the most difficult bit is near the top. It's also into the prevailing wind so usually the headwind gets worse as you near the top.
Temptation is to go too hard on the hairpins. Need to hold a bit back

From the other way the opposite is true, hardest section is at the bottom

I always find the first bit up to Holme Village the hardest, I have usually got into a rhythm by the time I hit the top section, its always a temptation to push hard up to Holme Village, but my advice would be take it easy there's a long way to go.

Well I am pleased. Just found out today I rode the Cross o’ Greet on Tuesday of this week and didn’t realise it!!

7.5 mile** climb out of Slaidburn towards High Bentham. Really enjoyed it.

I’m told that’s the distance I don’t really know. It’s an iconic Lancashire climb, long rather than steep through a very beautiful and remote Fell.

I always find it interesting that with many of these climb people talk them up. When one gets there the climb is usually not that bad - and this is not because I’m a great but due to our natural tendency to exaggerate.

Good to hear. Some hills are certainly talked up way beyond their actual challenge.

I did a 100k through the Surrey Hills yesterday taking in the usual suspects. A couple of riders had not been up Box Hill before and they both wondered what the fuss was all about. Leith Hill however stubbornly remains as horrible as ever !

Yes very much agree with this. When I did Ride London I wondered what the fuss was about on Box Hill - up here in Lancashire we’ve little choice but to ride climbs like Box Hill if we want to get in to the best areas our county has to offer. It’s a lovely bit of road.

I can’t comment on Leith Hill. It was rammed with riders when I got there and it was impossible to do more than 2-3mph as so many in front struggled, walked etc. The challenge was just to keep moving!!

On PRL everyone I met from the hillier parts of the country was pretty unimpressed with the climbs. I’m not wishing to sound arrogant but these are the sort of climbs Lancashire riders, and other counties, take as par for the course. We do them every week.

Mind you that one in Wimbledon at about 90 miles had me out of the saddle, screaming and cursing to force my way up it!!!!
