Are Specialised bikes worth the extra premium though??
I've always fancied a Roubaix (the SL4 expert ultegra or Di2) and if the moon is aligned with the earth next year i'll finally be in a position to get one.
For me personally I think specialized bikes are worth the premium. Having been the owner of a range of bike brands which are highly regarded I have found the support and service to be lacking, specialized simply jump through hoops to ensure I am happy with the product and this I place value on.
The specialized concept stores staff have specialist knowledge of bikes and exceptional training in supporting the product which I also appreciate.
The SL4 is unique in mass produced carbon cycles because the lay up is different on each size of frame as the characteristics a light and small rider requires and the stiffness of frame is different to that required by a heavyweight rider.
Specialized continue to innovate and invest in their products, they are one of the only bike manufacturers which have their own wind tunnel, as such can back up the claims they make with race results and data.
I like the brand, I think its not pretentious and does not pretend to be exotica lovingly had crafted in an Italian basement. It is what it is.
People so often mention the specification of the components on specialized bikes, which although true only tell half the picture imho... I can tell you as fact that my Dogma Think 2 does not ride as well as the Tarmac SL4 Pro which is half its price
