@MiK1138 r500s seem to be well liked for a budget wheelset. I found mine a little heavy, but also tough and comfortable. There has been plenty written about them if you wish to search it out. The forum search is up the top right.

Glad you got this sorted but did they say nothing about the frame size/amount of seatpost showing? IMO if that is the normal seat height then the bike is too small for you and the extended length of the seatpost may have caused or contributed to the failure of the frame.

the weld between the seat tube and top tube has failed.

With the amount of leverage the long seatpost will be inflicting on the frame I'm not at all surprised the frame failed in the way you describe.

Yes it is high, this is because the top tube slopes down. On my Cannondale, with the same size frame, the seat is the same height, but only 2/3 of the seat post showing.
The seat post is not above "max" though.

Thank you. This is the second pair of R501's. I think I paid about 70 quid delivered. The bearing go after about a year. I just replace the wheels. The bike is used every 5 day work commute (ex for Icy day, 2 this year). I did try to replace the balls, but they did not last that long. This may be due to my fettling skills, I should have removed and re greased before they got too bad.

That's a lot of exposed seat tube. I can see why the frame cracks at the point it did on some of these modern frame designs. Its moderately common in classic MTB circles where the modern fashion is for feet of exposed tube.

In the past spesh adhered to some business practice's that I was not fond of so I might have said some negative stuff about them. But their warranty is excellent (from other peoples experiences) and so are their bikes.

I think same can be said of Giant/Trek/Dale etc.

Good luck with your warranty request but I dont think you'll need it.
