With the amount of leverage the long seatpost will be inflicting on the frame I'm not at all surprised the frame failed in the way you describe.the weld between the seat tube and top tube has failed.

Glad you got this sorted but did they say nothing about the frame size/amount of seatpost showing? IMO if that is the normal seat height then the bike is too small for you and the extended length of the seatpost may have caused or contributed to the failure of the frame.

Thank you. This is the second pair of R501's. I think I paid about 70 quid delivered. The bearing go after about a year. I just replace the wheels. The bike is used every 5 day work commute (ex for Icy day, 2 this year). I did try to replace the balls, but they did not last that long. This may be due to my fettling skills, I should have removed and re greased before they got too bad.nice bike sir, thinking of buying some R500s how do you find them?
