okay so the more mountain bike end of derailleur parts, then.

but i doubt it matters. although im no expert, i know that mountiain bike rear cassettes often run eg 11-32 teeth, so at least as wide a range as any road cassette. so the acera derailleur or whichever it is should be fine. likewise, i run an alivio front mech on a chainset with 48 teeth in the top gear. i doubt it would struggle with a 50 tooth chainset...

but, anyway, i dont think thats what you had in mind? you basically want to get into a lower position. whats the top gear on the sirrus, ie number of teeth on the big ring at front and number on small ring at the back? arguably youll already have enough range for a good top speed. so youll just need sti shifters and compatible brakes for both the sirrus frame and the sti shifters. that could be tricky.

chucking an option at you, work out how much you would be prepared to spend to upgrade/convert it, and spend that amount on a quality set of wheels. will be just as much fun as getting road handlebars, and faster most of the time anyway.

another possibility alongside the one above is, get yourself a long stem, like 120mm or something, and fit it so that its as low on the front as possible. this will flatten you out and extend your reach. should get you out of the wind a bit. fitting bar ends also, useful as you can sort of hang off them and so get quite low. running bar ends on the inside of the gear levers is also quite a good option, although youll have to put up with sneers from the purists if you do that!

I'd sell the Sirrus and get the Triban 3, just my 2p...assuming you are not doing the rebuild yourself, it will undoubtedly cost you less. £200 for the Sirrus and another £100 for the Triban, STIs and a carbon fork

The basic Sirrus has pretty anonymous gear and brake parts and a steel fork, I have no idea if it can be converted to use the existing gears and brakes

yep that would be a pretty reasonably priced way of doing it!

i suppose im advocating in favour of not bailing out on the sirrus. i do feel people give up on things too quickly these days, in bikes as in so many other things.

the cheapest way to get more out of the sirrus would be to get the existing cockpit as low as possible, slap on some long bar ends or Token aero bars, and fit some 25mm tyres. total cost in the order of fifty quid.

sirrus top gear is a 48/11 which is more than quick enough!

The OP could look for a used Specialized Allez too. I am not sure if the Secteur geometry will give much aero advantage over the Sirrus?

Or keep the Sirrus and N+1 Triban

I've got a sirrus which is 4yrs old and its not much slower than my defy!! I've only upgraded because I've had a mechanical problem since purchase which specialized customer services have not been any assistance in sorting out! Rant over!!

Don't know but the Sirrus didn't come with the road groupsets as far as I know, but the more MTB ones - Acera, Alivio, Deore - No Sora, Tiagra...if that makes a difference, not sure
Mine did come a road groupset but its a 2006 model, it has fwiw a sora front mech and a tiagra rear. FWIW It converted well and was financially viable IMO but (and probably a big but ;)) it needed problem solver travel agents to aid the braking but it made a good winter/training bike; it was also helped being a 32/42/52 tripple and by the Aksiums I put on it  .

I have the 2013 basic Sirrus and just fitted a new tyre, I was informed by my spesh dealer that 28c was the thinnest tyre I could fit to the stock Alex rims.
