@fairyhedgehog I've got a Holux GPSPort260 a GPS based unit. It does do some route tracking and allow for a breadcrumb trail style route plotting. Unfortunately since the laptop the software was installed in died I've not been able to use it for either function as I can't find the receipt to register it again on new laptop so have switched to using the phone. It does work as speedometer though. I'm now thinking about a Garmin unit.
Yours if you want it for a donation to charity. PM me.

Wow, it's a pain about the laptop. It's a kind offer to let me have it as a speedometer, thank you! I may just go with one of the other options, though.

Don't worry about ColinJ, he's a wee bit old fashioned and never goes cycling without his book of Logarithm Tables, slide rule and calculator with spare batteries.
Doesn't everyone? Shucks, I've been doing it wrong ;)

I found my finger caressing the touchpad button over the 'add to basket' button.
I have a stronger will. And a wife.
My OT doesn't need to know about this until after Christmas. Then it'll be a Christmas present to myself. I did plan to wait until January but thought I could make use of it before Christmas too.

Anyway, it's my money, we're not going to go short and I still have plenty put aside for Christmas so it's not like I can't afford it!

Sorry about the short notice @fairyhedgehog , but I think this ride might appeal to you .....

10 am tomorrow morning in Kingston, "Women on Wheels"

http://www.cyclekingston.net/event.php?eid=142

These rides are a great opportunity to gain confidence on your bike in a fun and sociable environment. Led by experienced Kingston Council cycling instructors, the rides last two to three hours and take place in quieter routes at a leisurely pace. They also include a refreshment break.

(I once was approached by them in Kingston, and ended up on their mailing list. They seem a very friendly bunch, but I've never ridden with them)

Thank you for thinking of me!

I actually took courage from the conversation in here and went with the CTC beginners' ride from Nonsuch Park this afternoon. It was a hard climb but not too fast - although they take far fewer and shorter breaks than I usually do! I think if I go every week I'll soon see an improvement. They have a "no cyclist left behind" policy for that group, so I didn't have to worry about going slowly and I did manage to keep up quite well.

I'm going to bookmark the "Women on Wheels" page for another time. It looks like their next ride is in January after tomorrow. It will mean taking my bike on the train or car to Kingston, otherwise I'll be all ridden out before I start!
