Isn't that referred to in athletic circles as 'doing a paula'?

I did Archery for a while. All was good, but it eventually got to the point where I suddenly realised that I could hit the bullseye with every shot, but..... then what??

If you were hitting the gold with every shot you were clearly standing too close! I used to do archery (until frozen shoulder stopped me) and even though I won a couple of county tournaments, I only once cleaned an 18m 60 shot FITA in competition using a compound bow (mind you the compound 10 ring on indoor targets is only 2cm diameter, the 9 ring is 8cm). Or you could try the outdoor FITA, 36 arrows at 90m, 36 at 70m, 36 at 50m and 36 at 30m. Reckon you can hit the gold with all 144?

Nope, I was just getting remotely consistent at it, and, and then it hit me. The realisation, not an arrow.

You are probably right, but it was also the fact that it was all individual - I mean, once the shot has been taken, your opponent can't then knock yours out of the way or anything (can they?).

That is why I eventually took up Curling instead, its more fluid (pardon the pun)

Ah, "remotely consistent", not really the same as "hit the bullseye with every shot"! That's the difference between being able to ride 25 miles and being able to ride 25 miles in under 50 minutes. The comparison is valid I suppose seeing as time trials are individual tests of ability and there are probably as few riders capable of doing that as there are archers capable of hitting the gold virtually every time. As for not being able to knock your opponents arrow out of the way, yes you can do it, done it myself many times, usually indoors, which is why indoor comps give you a target each. However, it's generally frowned upon because arrows are very expensive.

Curling? Different concept altogether, never tried it, not likely to, but plenty of folk seem to enjoy it.

*Goes back to read original statement*

Ah ok, sorry, I didn't mean hit bullseye every time literally, I meant, it occurred to me after a while as I improved, that I could get to be able to do it, but then what??

It was meant to be me in the future when I'd achieved it. Sometimes I am not very clear with what I mean.

However, it's generally frowned upon because arrows are very expensive.

Acht, what's the fun in that??

Perhaps, but it is much more changable and dynamic.

Anyway, each to their own.
