They look a fair bit different to me?

You've only looked at the pix on the web, at a guess.

The materials are different (EX has a lot of plastic), the EX is 2" longer, they have different rails so they take different bags. On the clamps, the EX has a QR lever, the RX has 2 allen bolts and the EX has the "hidden" tray. The RX can also take side rails, not sure you can do that with the EX.

The most important thing to choose, IMO, is which bag you want to carry. Once you've chosen that, you need to get the rack to suit.

The RX is also designed for road bikes specifically.

The EX is great for light loads up to about 10kg. I have one on my Hybrid for commuting duties. They are desigend specifically to take a Topeak trunk bag, which engages very well on a railed and clip system.
