I've just been watching the 'red carpet' show. Blah, blah etc etc. The only point of interest was that Eddie Izzard was dressed as Angela Merkel.

I thought that was Claire Baldings older Sister

I thought Lewis Hamilton would win again, not that I follow motor racing, but for the fact that it is a high profile tv sport.

He used to get a bit at Goodison... Lineker (I think) told the tale of him and Hansen getting "good natured" ribbing there, whereas Jimmy Hill got prolonged choruses of "Jimmy Hill, is a w****r, is a w****r..."

To which Jimmy Hill turned around to Lineker and Hansen and said "that's the price of fame", and smiled.

I'd like to see the Scottish Jimmy Hill song revived at Goodison for Alan "Greenie" Green whenever he has the temerity to turn up, but with a rather more robust epithet.

Why is the programme titled Sporting Personality of the Year then? If it was simply on sporting merit it would be titled Sportsperson of the Year shurely?
It's not even worth discussing, the whole thing could have been buried years ago

Remember that it started in the fifties, when someone being a 'personality' meant they were what would be termed a 'celebrity' today. It would make sense to rename it Sportsperson of the year though.

I like Andy Murray.
He always seems a dedicated, self-deprecating, humorous and considerate bloke.
Although I don't think he was worthy of winning this award, this year, for a team event.
