Huge in the north, shows how many people wanted him to win, a good way to spread the word alsoI didn't realise rugby league was so popular. Big drop to third as well.

Not sure I do entirely, the report suggests rugby league would be better represented by an end of year review, problem is it doesn't get the recognition it feels it deserves, so trying to use SPOTY and others as a platform to promote the sport is an opportunity it would be naive to miss. It's probably the same for several other sports too
Yeh it is a bit X factor , lose respect if not carefulIs it just me, or did SPOTY resemble X-factor this year, with participants playing the cute child card? Were there any that hadn't recently become parents or expecting in the short list? Other than Lizzy Armistead.

My issue is it becomes a popularity contest, it doesn't seem to know if it is about the personality or the achievement and it becomes a bit of both but neither entirely. Not sure of the answer though, I do long for the tongue in cheek, more fun shows of the 80s and early 90s, now the program has become a slick operation it has changed
Back in the day, I remember a year when Wigan won everything in RL but they had Jonny Vegas doing the review of the year. He began with "I know Wigan won everything but we're not going to talk about them" and proceeded to talk about the Saints for 5 mins. Top blokeNail-on-head
I much preferred the sport review of the year format than person contest that it is ever more becoming and with it ever less interesting.
