I didn't realise rugby league was so popular. Big drop to third as well.

I like Andy Murray.
He always seems a dedicated, self-deprecating, humorous and considerate bloke.
Although I don't think he was worthy of winning this award, this year, for a team event.
In the words of the great Moe Szyslak, "I'm a well-wisher in that I mean him no specific harm."

Remember that it started in the fifties, when someone being a 'personality' meant they were what would be termed a 'celebrity' today. It would make sense to rename it Sportsperson of the year though.

Hmm, "personality" or "celebrity" neither are words I would use to describe Murray.

How about Most Popular Sportsperson of the Year?

Or, It's A Popularity Contest And Futile?

Or simply: Mr. Popular 2015?

I feel like an atheist raging against Islam.

In terms of sporting achievement which is what SPOTY is or was as I remember then I think he is a worthy winner, dedicated to his sport. I`m sure you could argue that there are others whom have had the same dedication to there sport and maybe more discerning of this award. Th best tennis player the UK has ever had, maybe not produced as its well known Andy spent more time a abroad in his younger years learning his craft but that says more about the LTA then anything else.

He went up a few places this year in our estimation, mainly due to his wife's foul mouth.

Why have they chosen yet another person who talks in monotone? Still, at least he doesn't dress like the Fresh Prince of Bel Air.

It's interesting how so many moan about Andy Murray's perceived lack of personality while Ennis-Hill isn't any better yet is almost universally loved.
I like SPOTY, it usually has some great moments (Bailey Matthews for example) and the obiturary section is always done well too. With only 12 nominations for the main gong, there's always going to be some glaring omissions (Rachel Atherton?) but generally it's a good list.

I've always wanted to attend one of the team meetings for the Davis Cup team:

AN Other: I think we need to change focus and do it this way.
Andy M: I'm number 2 in the world, we're doing it my way. So shut up.

Disagree - I watched most of the matches in the past couple of years - Yes there are players who have contributed over the long cycle of getting back into the world group - Yes there is a big team of people involved - but it was Andy Murray who made it happen over the last year - contributed immensely physically and mentally - particularly in those critical doubles matches against France and the Aussies and no more so when it got a bit dodgy against Belgium when his normally reliable brother got a bit tight - You could almost see him muttering the mantra - We are not going to F**k this up.

Nice red carpet pics of Lizzie and the other sporting ladies in their posh frocks:

Ok, here comes the whinge - those sporty ladies are intelligent and attractive so it makes my heart sink when you see how little publicity they get compared to cosmetically enhanced-never done a days work in their life- 'females' who earn a fortune by taking their kit off and they are the ones girls look up to and want to emulate  *rant over*
