Another thing? Did you get it x-rayed if really painful after 5 weeks? Could be fractured

I'd see GP asap

Doctors, especially GPs, aren't only there to treat people who are dying. They might be in majors in A&E but not the GP (they might send people who are dying to other doctors indeed)

See a sports Physio if you really don't want to bother the GP

I have direct experience of this.

My first few steps to getting fit was to start jogging using an app called c25k. I progressed well.... well enough and even got on to the 6th week.

On the way back from a jog I saw my family walking along, my son came to me and we raced back. Somewhere in that race I sprained my ankle. It hurt but was manageable. Anyway, after work every day my ankle would be swollen and being a chauffeur I don't really have to walk all that much. My wife forced me to the doctor and long story short, my ankle was fractured.

5 weeks in total in one of those plastic leg boots. I was told another 2 or 3 before trying to jog, I gave it another week or two after that.

It's been 3-4 months now I think and even now when I go for a ride or jog my ankle does swell a little. Seems less now but there's still a niggle in my ankle when I exercise so I only allow a certain amount of pain, of it gets worse then that I'll stop.

My point. Get it checked properly. Get it x-rayed for your own peace of mind and I wish you the best of luck.

Apologies if I've rambled.

Yeah but theres not a lot the sports physio can to speed up healing is there bar accupuncture.
I know but I cant sit in the house all day I'm getting bored stiff.
They can use ultrasound, manipulation, massage, dry needling, give you strengthening exercises, send you for hydrotherapy, they can tape it, provide the correct support...and tell you to get an. X-ray or refer you for other imaging

Not sure why you asked for advice if you aren't prepared to do anything. After 5 weeks and it's no / not much better with PRICE, maybe it's time to swallow your pride and get help from a trained medic  spending £50 might help you get off your arse quicker

Infra red.

Compex electro muscle stimulation. I've had a lot of that over the last few months of acl rehab.

Soft tissue work to clear out damage products and prevent or ease adhesions

I've used sports physios for groin strain, smidsy damage, pre op prehab, post op rehab. Every penny very well spent.

Why ever not? I've played rugby with a fracture...

Anyway, six weeks provided correctly diagnosed and treated.

So please see q medic.

Thanks I'm going to make an appointment first thing in the morning with the G.P, I hope I dont have to go to A and E for an Xray as I've nearly lost the will to live down there a few times. I cant wait in a queue let alone for hours on end in a hospital.
Do you have a local Minor Injuries Clinic? They can do pretty well everything with extremities.

Either way I'd advise and encourage patience. A bum ankle can, ime, be a gift that keeps on giving if not dealt with effectively.

A physio can give you a structured rehabilitation program to get you back on your feet.

As soon as you're mobile again though, you do NOT want to be using an ankle support, you need the muscles and ligaments to be regaining their strength as soon as possible. Supports prolong this process.

Don't attempt to use a support, and play sports either if the ankle can't cope, as you end up with serious knee trouble if the ankle is unable to flex normally. Don't ask me how I know

I guess it'll take as long to heal as it takes. takes longer as we get older too
Might be quicker if you see a private Physio asap who has all the toys. If cycling is your main sport, find one who specialises in fixing cyclists if you can

3 month waiting list for NHS in my area
