After a lifetime of Shimano I have bought a bike with SRAM 1 x 11. After a week of riding I think it's pretty good. Not as slick as the Shimano perhaps but non-the-less perfectly nice to use. The SRAM change method took all of 30 seconds to get the hang of. "Double tap" still seems a bit of a misnomer however.

The 1 x 11 is perhaps a bit of a gimmick but the range is huge and the increments are quite acceptable for my intended use (where speed and cadence are not prime concerns).

Less sure about the disc brakes - also new to me. Maybe I will grow to love them eventually.

If you think 1x11 is a gimmick then you'll love the new 1x12 from SRAM.

I have SRAM rival 1 on my recently bought crosser and it's fine not as smooth as the 11 speed 105 on my Fratello, but that's no bad thing. I think 1x makes sense in certain situations like crossers and commuter bikes but not sure on a straight road bike.
