As a slightly different aspect, Zappa's wife Gail is very protective of his music and has in the past tried to stop festivals and cover bends performing the music.
Of course a cover band can perform the music quite legally if the venue has a PRS licence, it is effectively no different from a DJ playing a record.

Quite right too, although the Muffin Men and the Grandmothers seem to do his music justice. Then of course there is Dweezil playing his Dads songs.
I've seen all of these live and the Man himself (once only cos he disliked Britain, describing it as "a miserable island off the coast of France"
