Report all pot holes on the http://www.fillthathole.org.uk/ website. That way if there is an accident the council will know that it has been reported to them as a problem and they failed in their duty to fix it - plus other cyclists can see where problems are.

It'd take all year to report all of the potholes on any short route near me. And that wouldn't include the generally "ess aitch one tea" road surface between potholes. it's a disgrace.

The last time Hyde Road was resurfaced was just before the Commonwealth games, Since then its gone to rack and ruin, looks like the budget was all blown in that year.

2002 wasn't all that long ago. Most major A roads seem to go longer between resurfacing.

i've noticed recently that any potholes marked with yellow that get filled in around here, the council somehow seem to fail to notice and fill in all the little holes around it, so basically what's the point? why the fook don't they fill them in at the same time??? No... they would rather wait for another few weeks until those holes become huge holes and dangerous as well as costing more to fill in.

and then, you find a really nice road to ride on, all smooth tarmac and no resistance and the fookin council come along within 2 months and resurface it with that shite gravelly stuff (the stuff that you think is the bit before the top coat and you wait and wait and wait for the council to come and finish it off but in never does). So i came to the presumption that it was made that way so that cars had more grip. Sod us cyclists eh? and don't bother to take into account the fact that lorry tyres seem to have a little too much grip on it, and rip it up, so in a few weeks you can see the trenches where there the lorry drivers have been and lo and behold... new potholes appear!

fookwits the lot of 'em.

and have you noticed that there seems to me more of those long cracks that stretch right across the road, like there's been an earthquake, and you just can't avoid them and they get wider and wider. what is that all about? one road on my commute and it's like kerjunk kerjunk kerjunk all the way down as i ride down it. i can't avoid them. my poor bike

Have just found out that Prestwich have been given £63k for road / pavement repairs for 2009/10. This is less than 10% of the £700k estimated by Bury Council's own engineers that is required to fix the 12 most needy roads in the area.

It also turns out that Bury Council paid out over £3m in compensation over the past 2 years to victims of trips and falls on local pavements.

What hope do we have cycling on our roads? things are going to get a whole lot worse over the next 12 months.

As an aside does anyone know if this budget is supposed to cover A roads? or are they handled by a different budget. If this is for all roads in the area than it is not on scandalous but criminally negligent. There are some major roads in the area that are approaching the stage of being impassable on a bike and a major pothole related accident is waiting to happen.

Prestwich has never got its fair share - all the council tax money ends up in Bury. Apparently it was much better when Prestwich had its own council. Having said that, as I commute to Manchester I'm not sure where the Bury boundary is but the roads are poor all the way - especially down by Strangeways

Do you really think that is true? the councillor who sits on the Prestwich Local Area Partnership is also a councillor for the whole of Bury. He would see if Prestwich was getting a raw deal and I hope would shout out about it.

Wasn't really trying to make a point about Prestwich just highlighting the facts and summarising if that is this the same for everyone than the roads are going to disintegrate before our eyes xx(

Agreed however since then half of it was dug up for the new Tesco, Then the burst water main, There are AT LEAST 15 sunken man hole covers over the 4 mile stretch I am on it for.
