I've considered this before (in principal!) and sadly much like most other low-level crime, if you're morally-deficient enough to screw others over in such a way you'll probably easily get away with it.
Let's face it, the reason most of us aren't constantly nicking from each other is individual morality and a lack of necessity, not insurmountable practical obstacles or the certainty of getting caught.
You get your mate to go in and clock the CCTV first, then later go in yourself avoiding it as much as possible, hand over your fake documents to the 17yr old behind the counter who probably has no idea of what he's looking at even if he does inspect it, cycle 5 minutes round the corner to where your mate's waiting with a Transit and you're off to the next place.
I very much doubt the Police would be interested unless the retailer handed the case to them on a plate with a little bow around it..
