Anything soapy and a scrubbing brush then and rinse well. Anything oily like GT85 I would imagine would leave a slippery surface behind as it is a lubricant, I would not use it on tyres that is for sure.

Playing devils advocate, im a maintenance engineer working on packing machines, complex, with rubber bushes, seals, buffers, electrics, plastics, painted surfaces, anodised alloys etc..and a bloomin good cleaning with a semi industrial steam cleaner does them NO harm whatsoever.
That said, would I use one on my bike ?...no.
Why ?..because its almost too much aggro. Theyre good for breaking down really deep, dirty components / surfaces, but ive never got my bike so so dirty ive felt

Mr Sheen. It removes brake crap fast. I shall not charge for my tip. It also cleans the rest of the bike pronto, and it stops crap build up too.

That would be me - but in my defense I have disc brakes so don't have to worry about getting any on the rim.
I also spray it onto tissue rather than straight onto the tyre. A little goes a long way!

I find the best way to bring your tyres up to "New" is to use ten pound notes, they work a treat. About five of them should make your tyres look and feel like new plus you get a free plastic bag from the LBS with every 5 used.

I used a steam cleaner on the my bike yesterday . You can turn yen heat off too! But you still need a brush I think just to make sure.
