"Warning Attention Seeker"

This was what I thought on Sunday, we went to Lincoln it was the Steampunk weekend, very interesting but I don't understand what its all about, just looks like a load of attention seekers to me, am I missing something or does the genre have more substance.

It enables people to express their creativity. I don't see the harm in it myself, no more attention seeking than any other social tribe.

Steampunk and Cosplay is a way for people to express themselves by dressing up as their heroes, villains etc. A bit like pro-kit cycling mamils really but not necessarily using lycra. Nowt wrong with it.

I don't understand steampunks at all, but they aren't doing anyone any harm so I don't have a problem with it.

Ah, so that's why they have the Cycle Show next door to a gaming convention every year!
My kids are keen on a bit of cosplay; the youngest, most violent one spent most of his uni loan on LARPing gear. He and his buds would go out dressed as dwarves, trolls etc. and try to beat the snot out of each other with rubber weapons

My thoughts too, I have no problem if people want to dress up and enjoy themselves, they seemed to enjoy posing for pictures.

How do we feel about the following while we are singling out people who like to dress up....
- Grown ups dressing up as soldiers to re-enact war
- Tribute bands
- Retro festival types in 50's gear
- Famous people impersonators (Elvis etc)
- etc etc etc

Just different ways for people to enjoy themselves, and harmless.

At least they don't dress in skin tight lycra and block the public roads on weekends.

I think Steampunk shows flair and creativity, brightens the world and should be applauded.

Both Goths and steampunks seem to take a damned site more trouble over and pride in their appearance than the majority of people, both very interesting and diverse groups imo well worth giving them respect for their dedication and diversity.

This is where I see a difference Goths seems to be a way of life and they dress behave the same all the time, Steampunks seems to be a special event thing, Hence my question in the OP am I missing something ?
