Steampunk and carbon are at the opposite ends of the spectrum.
Like dinosaurs and Airbus A320s.
Like mineral water and whisky.
Like rock paintings and Kindle
Like bronze and titanium
Like steam and fission
Like Catholic cathedrals and condom factories
Like, you get the picture.

Leather-look bar tape and new-age Brooks saddles are mere anachronisms, not steampunk.

Lincoln is a larger event, so I am told.
Whitby has two Goth weekends a year, which incorporate Steampunk. fark Lincoln, Whitby is the spiritual home of the Goth, Dracula and all that. More seriously, the Goth trade brings in huge amounts of money into Whitby and the Goth weekends are great and notable for so little trouble in town, just peaceful law abiding good fun.

Slightly related, I'm off to see The Sisters of Mercy on Saturday.

How do we feel about the following while we are singling out people who like to dress up....
- Grown ups dressing up as soldiers to re-enact war
- Tribute bands
- Retro festival types in 50's gear
- Famous people impersonators (Elvis etc)
- etc etc etc

Just different ways for people to enjoy themselves, and harmless.
... or cyclists out on a "tweed ride". Personally, I think that's far more preferable to "alt-right" hate-filled bigots staging violent protests against anything that's different. There's an unfortunate increase in those types of people in Australia recently: just another reason for me to want to leave this country.

Wild Wild West was one of the most obvious steam punk films, unfortunately it wasn't a great film.

It may not have been a "great film" (Citizen Kane, 7 samurai or whatever) but was still very entertaining.

I think the whole genre is imaginative and rather brilliant, even though I wouldn't be seen dead wearing anything like they do

I'm planning on building something like this (with USB charging ports, of course) for my daughter for Christmas. She isn't particularly a steampunk fan, but will, I think (hope?), appreciate it

Steampunk is a great fashion; if I changed my look I would go steampunk.

There's a superb steampunk metro station in Paris; would London have the balls to do something as different and as good as this?

For me the original steampunk movie was A Series of Unfortunate Events:
