The steel aficiniados say steel is real, the ride quality is unmatched. I do not dispute this but if steel is that good, then what's the need for a carbon fork?

Very true
A lot of it is the image , i doubt there is any advantage for carbon over a good steel one
I have this idea of a steel bike melting in the heat. Probably never happen mind you.

a) there is steel and there is steel
b) a lot of cheap bikes are cheap alu with cheap alu forks

I don' like pipe cleaner built looking frames..
If they are great then I'm happy for those who like them.
I used them as a youngster and can't
Say I remember them being great.in fact I snapped a few at the headset and seat stay..i was a bit of a fan of ramps and stunts..
We also have to factor in the " we don't like change view"
Young people will embrace Tec old people often won't..

Probably more carbon forks than anything else on bikes above about a thousand quid. Breakages do happen but extremely rarely.
