Thanks all, some interesting suggestions to check out . A friend of mine picked up a Fratello for an absolute song last year and it's just a lovely thing. Reading road.cc's review of the disc version combined with my epiphany that disc brakes on a road bike totally works (I have them on my Genesis Day one and even though they're not the best calipers, they're so much better than rim brakes!), a replacement for my 'proper' road bike will almost certainly be a steel framed, disc affair.

Kudos to Vickster for the link to the De Rosa frame, if that doesn't pique your interest even to look at then you just don't like bikes IMO .

(Or I'd probably be happy with a de rosa Ti as my forever bike...yeah cos I do those  as @jefmcg will attest  )

Then I don't like bikes.
I love De Rosa bikes and have seen some lovely ones. But that one.... yuk.

This looks great value if it's your size. I'd want to budget for a re-spray though...

This is pretty gorgeous, if you could find the extra shekels -

Do you need gears?

This is a handsome beast and very cheap (depending on shipping costs); can't find full spec list though

The Kaffenback looks good but I'm with @ianrauk on this one - the Condor and Genesis would top my list.

I think it's hard to look past those two in reality, as much as the De Rosa would be nice! I have a mate with a Kaffenback and I'm not a big lover of it, plus it's too similar to my Day One, I'm looking at this as a replacement to my road bike which is a Cannondale CAAD8.

Even better, looks like it's free

(I suspect it's not and the frame alone will swallow outlash's budget, if not more)
