It's factually incorrect. Stoke Gifford is in South Gloucestershire. If you'd been there, you'd know why they are pretending to be in Bristol.

What did you bring football into the discussion then?

I think you'd find that if a football team wanted to have regular matches in the park the council might well have something to say about it.

You're just making it up as you go along.

Next there will be a toll for cycling through. I cycled through the park twice this afternoon.

To put it into some context though, a local football club pay £60 every time they play a match so should the park run pay nothing? Maybe the football club should not be paying. Also I understand that part of the run is on the grass so that could be where the wear and tear comes in.

The difference is the football players pay subs to their club and when they are playing the field is off limits to everyone else. Park run don't charge the runners and everyone else can still use the paths during the run.
If other councils follow suit this will be the death of park run.

While this thread is back up, I took a look at their statement the other day:

The Parish Council has only recently paid out £55,000 from public funds for resurfacing the car park and with the additional 300+ runners per week, will shortly need to replace / repair the path at an estimated cost of £60,000, so as Parkrun are significant users of the path on a regular basis they should contribute towards the upkeep.

So, there we have it - they've spent their money on the car park. Priorities, eh?

And of course the Park Run will be able to keep going during the repair / replacement program?!!

Be very interesting to know what the annual repair costs are and when is was last replaced. I feel an FOI Act request coming on.

Meanwhile, several hundred parkrunners ran at Ashton Court this morning. I expect the cafe and the car park both earned a big chunk of cash.
