We're being encouraged to stop smoking, give up drinking for October by government / charites.
Now of course it's a good thing on the whole but the way the ads are presented its as if the whole country is addicted.
I'm no saint but I've never smoked and only drink very occasionally, certainly months can go between having a drink and then only to enjoy one or two, certainly not to get smashed out of my head. ( I have been extremely drunk once and NEVER again I felt so bad )
Is just me that's not a fag addicted p#s head?

No, I'm the same.

Smoked a few a day for a few months going out with a girl who did, to mask the stale fag kissy taste - We didn't last and I never smoked from the day we split up

I've always been an alcoholic lightweight and the hangover just isn't worth it

I was unaware of this, haven't seen any ads, but the lowering of the drink drive limit has reduced my alcohol intake.

I used to smoke for over 50 years (it's done me up like a kipper now mind)....but It was fashionable when i started, people would be smoking in shops, supermarkets, pubs and everywhere and even while serving you. I think the government was making so much dosh out of taxes they couldn't give a monkeys tbh, and only started all this when we joined the EU.

PS, Give it up.....:okay:

As an ex-smoker and ex-drinker I have to say that any attempts by do-gooders only ever had the opposite effect of making me consume more to give two fingers to the big brother society.

The health effects of all of this (and over-eating) are well publicised and in the public domain. Everyone has this information and can use it how they choose. People will change their life-style only if they want to do so, not because big brother is nagging.

I remember the good old days when you couldn't see your hand in front of you in some pubs through smoke stinging your eyes.....those was the days:whistle:

Don't smoke and drink around 3 to 10 units a month...mostly 3.

Happy to drink and happy to get drunk but also seem to be the family nominated sensible driver so have become used to partying sober.

I haven't really noticed the stop campaign but suspect its a good.idea, even if it does offend a.few types.

On the whole, I think our nation does drink too much and in some form, is addicted. Its the weapon of choice for anyone trying to have fun...which is a shame, hence the campaign I guess.
