Apparently in Scotland a "Tober" is an erection, so this is also a family planning campaign as well!

Must be in some remote corner of God's own country, like Edinburgh perhaps, because it's not used in the west!

I have never smoked, but was partial to a drink from the age of 16 when I started in the Merchant Navy - it was a way of life. 10 pints a day was no big deal. Started to get sensible by my mid 20's and these days a few pints is a very rare occasion (the bladder caves in after a few, apart from anything else). I could easily go through October without a drink or a smoke without even noticing.

This is my point . Nothing wrong in enjoying a drink or two,but the stop drinking campaign seems to suggest that giving up for a month is a big deal. Surely if it is then you need help rather than it being a challenge for a month and then returning to a potentially dangerous habit.

I had no idea this was a national phenomenon. I thought it was just my company that does it. (Don't watch TV, don't read papers).

Anyway that reminds me I have to use that month to quit chocolates.
