Living in fairly low lying Shrewsbury, we don’t get much snow..........until today!!

I set off for work at 8am (only a 3 mile journey) with a few flakes falling but nothing to suggest it would be any more than a dusting, with the below scene in my garden.

By 10am it was absolutely bucketing it down and it kept coming down, so at 11:30 I sent home those in my team who lived any sort of distance away, leaving the 3 more local ones of us to cover the office.

Various reports were coming in of chaos on the roads, breakdowns, accidents and gridlock.

By 3pm it was still coming down thick and so the remainder of us headed home.

Took me 1 hr 20 minutes to crawl the 3 miles home, with solid traffic all the way, and then couldn’t get into my parking space, which is only on a slight incline and so had to dig room for the car to get it in!

Scene in my garden at 5pm was this, with the depth measurement being 6.1 inches. Fully appreciate this is the norm for a number of areas of the UK, but for us this is a rarity! More forecast Sunday, but will probably turn out to be less than today!

Dead jealous - I love snow but think we normally get even less than you over here. The journey home sounds tedious though, but at least there's some snowman making potential out there by the look of things to make up for it.
Honestly - I'll be 50 next year and am still like a kid when it snows. Sad really!

Ferries cancelled for 3 days here, no flights yesterday, winds not as strong as expected, reached 90mph at the Butt of Lewis, 76mph in Stornoway. Blizzards last night and this evening. Snow showers today, but sun (and cold wind) in between. Walked the dogs yesterday morning and today.

Fantastic, I wish we had been on Uist this week instead of last week.

I'm also 50 soon, and i love the snow too. Sadly, all the snow we had here in Oslo has melted, and mostly dried up over the last 36 hours. On the plus side, the wind assist this morning gave me lots of segment PBs on the commute. Rather have the snow though.

Edited to add: There was a bit of tree debris on the sides of the roads this morning.

I hope we get some in Leicester this year, we've had no more than a flurry since I got the trike. :cycle:

Oh and can all these 'I'll be 50 soon' people shush a bit, I will be 56 in a couple of months and will then have to tick a different box in surveys and the like and I'm not looking forwards to it.
