Stormy weather forecast for the next few days. Some very strong winds indeed. Get your weekend club ride in today rather than early sunday morning when you might be blown off and drenched . The dark season is definitely upon us.

Nice today though, did 26 miles this morning and went out far too warmly dressed, was sweating like a good 'un all the way.

Yeah getting quite black in the sky here in Fife

Been out for a 22 mile cycle though and the weather was lovely so I am not complaining

I passed our Hlab on his bike, heading to Edinburgh ( I was in the car I am not that fast  ) he was going at a cracking pace as usual

Yeah, not looking forward to my commute over the next few days, then again, I'll just start shouting at the wind telling it that it will not defeat me, BWAHAHAHAH.

This is what the met office are forecasting in my area...

November heralds the return of autumn

Big changes in the weather are predicted over the next two days. On Saturday temperatures quite widely reached 15 to 17 Celsius and as high as 18 Celsius in a few places but by Monday most places will have values between 10 and 13 Celsius. This change will be brought about during Sunday as a spell of heavy rain and strong winds, with gales or severe gales in some areas, sweeps NE over the country to be followed by colder showery weather. Rainfall totals on Sunday may well reach 30 to 60mm in places and winds could gust to between 60 and 70mph over some hills and coasts.

BUGGER

Very wet and windy this morning. Glad I did my weekend ride yesterday. Oh well, a return to getting soaked and buffetted this week.

As mentioned on another thread, I did a 22 miler today on my new bike, well and truly christened. I got soaked to the skin with a headwind that was unbelievable, but I did it and loved it

when driving today i saw an older gentleman blown off his bike near todmorden. he just picked himself up and got on with it. respect!

on another line, i seem to be seeing older gents all the time now on very very nice bikes in full lycra and looking very fit. is this a new phenomenom? or has it always been this way?

My guess is that it is a relatively new phenomenon - part of the growth of the fitness industry. My dad was in slippers and cardigan at my age (54) i'm riding Sportives and the DunRun and get twitchy it it goes more than 3 days between rides! I'm ordering a van nicholas soon!

Stormy weather HA!!! Come and have a blow if you think you're hard enough! I just got a PB on my regular winter 8 mile training run. (The wind was with me almost all the way and pushed me to my best time ever. Actually, there were times I struggled to stay on my feet!)

well i intend to be part of the grey lycra squad. tho i think i'll be on a flashy moulton rather than a racer. they do always seem to be very serious looking and really pushing. i would have thought that they would be more heads up and enjoying the time out. when i used to do club runs, they older gents were fit but more relaxed and heads up with fancy bobble hats (do they still do bobble hats?). when i say i see them out, the ratio is 70% older gents to 30% yung uns.

Shaun they've always been around, you're just noticing them more as you get older!

Anyway, at what age does a bloke become an older gentleman?

dunno, i think of older gents as bushy eyebrows and full silver surfer hair. but as i get closer, they start to look distinguished...lol. perhaps 65, 70 ish. what do you think?
