As per title: changed phones from Sony to Samsung and Strave keeps dropping out as per screenshots.
A mate has a Samsung and his works OK with no fiddling with settings.

I've cleared cache and data, deleted Strava and reinstalled (a couple of times) Changed battery from optimised to unrestricted, allowed everything.

Still not working properly 🤷‍♂️

Google AI suggests
Improving GPS Accuracy
  • Go to Settings > Location > Improve accuracy (or Google Location Accuracy).
  • Enable Wi-Fi scanning and Bluetooth scanning to let your phone use nearby wireless signals to pinpoint your location faster, even if Wi-Fi or Bluetooth are turned off.

I'll give it a go tomorrow, thanks 👍

I have had this recently

it is especially bad if I stop and take a photo - I need to make sure that I make Strava the front app again

but it has given up a few times when I have not stopped

seems to be something that is quite recent - I suspect an update!!
(Samsung phone as well)

Maybe it's worth raising a ticket with Mr Strava... Another job for tomorrow, ta 👍

One of the problems I have is with the beacon facility

for those that do not know - it means another person can see where you are and where you have been
which I use so my wife knows where I am is I fall off - or if the grandkids are coming and she needs to know if it is worth ringing me or if I'll be back soon anyway
or whatever

but when I start it and send the message - it sometimes doesn;t link properly
better if I start it and then wander around outside for a minute or two before my wife tries the link in the message
but sometimes it just won't

I have been meaning to check things out but have not got round to it

but one possibility is that there are background processes running and these are taking power away from Strava
This could mean that it tries to get a GPS reading and fails

If Strava is not the "front" App - the one on screen then this is even more likely

and some setting mean that things like GPS gets dropped in priority
or even just stopped
if teh battery gets below a certain level

which could cause the "straight line" type problems
or even errors
(I once started a ride a few hundred miles South of the Bering Straits and travelled in a straight line to the bank of a canal near Runcorn - then round through Warrington to Widnes - total 10,000 miles in 2 hours!!!)

might be worth checking

Potential issues with Samsung, apparently, is the aggressive One UI battery actions and also Ram+

I've switched Ram+ off so we'll see what happens next time I'm out.

That would make sense based on my observations about problems when I take a photo

it could be lobbing strava into virtual memory and then it tries to get a location and does not react fast enough
and gets grumpy

it does seem to give up for a while if it fails

If i stop for phone calls , messages or to take a photo I need to pause Strava then restart it.
Otherwise its a straight line .
On a Samsung

Like I said upthread, a mate has a Samsung and Strava worked straight out of the box: no fiddling settings or anything. We did the Padley hike together, stopped at the same times etc.. His tracked, mine didn't 🤷‍♂️
