Hi there, I'm a newbie and have been out riding for 3 weeks (boy is cycling hard!). Someone suggested I get Strava to monitor my progress, which was great. I was wondering if there is any merit in upgrading to the premium version ? Does anyone have any advice please?

Might be worth waiti a little while to get used to Strava and all that it does before going premium. I had a premium trial for a month and many of the more advanced features were suited to people using power meters. I let the premium trial lapse and now happily use basic Strava.

It is interesting with a minimum of a hrm with effort zones and better still with a power meter. I thought I would look at the age categories more but to be honest I rarely do.

I'm in the middle of a free trial of the premium version. To be honest, it isn't really useful as I don't have a HR monitor or power meter, and the GPS on my phone is pretty awful.

To add insult to injury when I looked at the fatty category (>200lbs) to see how many Burger King of the Mountains I had, I found that loads of the local skinny weight weenies were on there, including a friend of mine who races Cat 3 and makes Chris Froome look fat.

So either there's an error, or they've been putting their weights in wrong.

My m8 who is skin n bone was worried his performance in watts was so low so I told him to put in that he was 20 stone as his weight and watch his power output go up, wonder if all the lightweights do the same.

Luckily I don't have to cheat with the weight although when I get a downhill KOM at 35 mph my wattage is usually under the 100:blush:

can’t see digital epo going down too well with people who take their KOMs seriously, though. In fact, we'd urge you not to get involved. Cheats never prosper - ask multi-millionaire Lance Armstrong. Oh no, hang on, that doesn't work.
