im halfway through a months trial version, will not bother upgrading at the end of it. no advantages except you can look at age groups etc, which is interesting for about 5 mins

I know Strava is king for a lot of people but have you seen the Mapmyride app lately ? very, very impressive, you can even create seggy,s a la Strava. The features are great, especially the nutrition section and they all free.

The problem with changing apps is that you have to start again with totals/distances etc. I used Sports-Tracker for a few years and built up a healthy count. All those miles lost now I'm on Strava

Thanks to everyone, guess the basic does all I need .... Saved me some money

Sorry if this is an obvious question, but is there an etiquette on strava for how far you have to be going to include the segment? What I mean is some times will be better if they're earlier in a ride or done in isolation compared to tackling them at the end of a longer ride. I'd need a tow from a moped or a car to tackle the ones I've seen.

Nope, where ever they crop up on your ride, just pedal harder. I have a regular route around my home town that is purely encompassing all the major segments, with a short rest distance between them. Need to be the fastest man about town after all LOL

Have even received some from the comfort of the armchair when someone else creates a new segment I have already ridden when there was no segment to begin with.

My club use Strava but MapmyRide have been working VERY hard to make it compete.
RideWithGPS has been competing for a while and I actually think its better, as you can list all your attempts (and other folk's), compare, analyse and race them (the latter is fun). Its not linked to mobiles, so it less popular but not being linked to mobiles (particularly iphones) makes its more accurate. It only downside IMO you have to pay for the similar security settings that you get in strava for free (privacy zones).

I pay for the Premium Version of Strava and have been using it for about 3 months. Unfortunately I have to report that it is not worth the additional costs. I think it is only worth it for the few cyclists that can afford a power meter. That is unless Strava develop some new features.

How do you sign up for a free trial of the 'premium' service?
I wouldn't mind trying it out, but I cant see anything on the site that advertises a free trial.

Mapmyride is soooo much better than strava, the support is awesome. I upgraded to premium (mvp) and it is awesome only £20 a year too
