The other thing is accuracy, phones are not as good as a dedicated unit but that depends whether that is a concern or not.

On my phone is the only way I use it.
I don't analyse the data or use it for training. I just like to see my rides and miles.

Yebbut, think of the free KOM’s!

Load of old tosh that keeps being regurgitated by sour KOM losers. Modern phone GPS accuracy is at least as good as the dedicated bicycle units of recent years. It 'might' not be as mm precise as the very latest tech, but that is really, really splitting hairs.
My phone which was launched in mid 2018 is just as accurate as my Garmin touring plus. Distances, AVE speeds, max speeds etc are all very closely matched and for all intents and purposes neither of them can be declared any more accurate than the other. In fact, I would have to say the Garmin is less accurate as when climbing slowly it really struggles to keep a steady speed while the phone appears to manage much better (not that I am glued to the screen. However, as KOMs tend to be about speed this matters not because once on the move the position averaging software can be more effective (I believe this is actually an accepted dilemma in atomic physics where as you become more precise about location you become less accurate about speed/velocity?) and minor positional inaccuracies become irrelevant.
Both dedicated GPS units and phone GPS will have similar software smoothing and position assumptions so neither can be declared, fairer, more accurate or true.

You are just slow, get over it!

I know & couldn't give a flying fig leaf about it, all I know is I recorded the same ride on both my Garmin 800 & whatever phone I had at the time & there was a difference. The ride was in the US where there was a lot of 90 degree turns, I found the Garmin took me around the turns & the phone cut the corners. Things may have moved on since, it was 25/01/2014

Does that mean I can ride with data/wifi disabled and then when I get home, I can enable data/wifi then the ride will upload once I press save?

Glasgow44. I don't have any WiFi connection whilst I am out. It records the ride then when I get home the phone reconnects to the house WiFi and uploads the ride. You don't need data to record the ride.

My phone is more accurate than a Garmin Edge 500 which goes wildly astray in woods leading to incredible speed data when it corrects
If you need to use data (not necessarily Strava related) and have BT WiFi at home install the BT WiFi app and your phone should auto connect to any BT WiFi wherever it is.

I don't know about phone v Garmin differences but Garmin v Garmin discrepancies exist. On a ride with my lad we did a fast long straight segment, at the end I was in front by about 100 mtrs, his time for the segment was quicker than mine. Garmin 520 v Garmin Touring.

Question is was he 120 m behind you at the start of the segment 😅

I won't be using it for training or anything like that either; also just want to see my rides and miles.

get a cheaper Garmin if you don't need navigation (you do have lots of expensive bikes to go with). Get stem mounts and it takes seconds to swap between bikes :okay:

True! I'm rubbish with technology though and quite lazy with it too and therein lies the problem!
you just turn it on... and when ride stopped t should upload automatically to Strava via Bluetooth ...
Or just use your phone as suggested
