Hi there

I recently got a Wahoo Elemnt Bolt. I have Strava but I don't subscribe. Before I got Wahoo, I tended to just record my rides with my phone.

I'm now thinking of taking up a subscription with Strava. If I was to subscribe to Strava, would this allow me to upload and share my previously saved routes (the ones I used via my phone)?

Would a subscription also allow me to download and save routes from Komoot to Strava in order that I can save and share?

I'm a Strava subscriber but I'm sure you can have a free account and upload your rides etc. and route plan. What you will find is these only provide the basic functions. If you want bells and whistles you will need a paid account. My advice would be to set up a free account. Once you have a little experience you can decide if you need to subscribe or not.

Can confirm you can upload from a wahoo with a free or paid subscription (I have paid strava for me and a separate free one for the tandem).

I don't understand this:

You can upload other people's routes from Strava but not your own using a free Strava account.

I've never used Strava routes, but I think the position is that you can't create your own routes without a subscription, so by definition you can't upload them because they don't exist!

That is also what I did. But they could still be uploaded to Strava from the phone.

Yes. You *may* need to save them as gpx files in order to upload them, but I don't think so.

Would a subscription also allow me to download and save routes from Komoot to Strava in order that I can save and share?

Yes. Or from RWGPS or cycle.travel, or any similar app. Though again, I think you can do that without a Strava subscriptio, though I'm not absolutely certain, as I do have one, and have had for several years now.

You can upload other people's routes from Strava but not your own using a free Strava account.

The free account lets you upload your own activities, but doesn't let you create routes within Strava. I *think* it allows you to upload routes created in other apps, but TBH that doesn't matter much, as if you have the Wahoo device, you can create routes in any of the apps, and transfer them straight to the Wahoo app which will automatically sync with your device.

So you can create routes with Komoot, RWGPS, cycle.travel, etc and get them on your device for navigation without ever touching Strava. You can then set it to automatically upload your rides to Strava.

This is how I use Strava and Wahoo apps and it works fine...easiest bit of tech to set up too.

I use a Garmin Edge 1000 and then upload to my free Strava account.
I used to pay for my Strava subscription but stopped when the annual charges increased. The free version is fine for me.

Thanks. You can't now (since 27th February) transfer routes from Komoot to Wahoo unless you subscribe

Providing you mean routes and not rides and you can export them as .gpx files you can upload them to Strava. Rides can be added using the manual function.
