Why can't you install Strava on the iPad? You imply that you have a gps device (other than the phone), so why do you need the phone at all in your scenario?

No I didn’t mean they advertise they would always be compatible with my phone. They say they offer a free service.

Which they do, but only if you have a compatible device.
When I try to install the Strava app on my iPad it says it doesn’t have iOS something or other. I use my phone because my cycling club put rides up via Strava which they pay for. Using my phone I can look at my rides when I’m in the house rather than having to bring my head unit in to house after every ride .
But I have currently but alas not for long.🎻

Do you not have an an actual computer that isn't a phone or tablet? If you do, use that. Strava's far better not on a mobile device anyway.
Or, install whatever the missing bit of iOS is so that it works on the tablet!

You can still access the free service, you simply need the right device.
A Google search returned this:
"Yes, iOS 16 is still usable for basic daily tasks in 2026, but it is increasingly outdated and losing compatibility with modern apps"
The opposite view would be to ask why Apple doesn't ensure their OS remains compatible with modern apps. Presumably you purchased the Apple product? Your beef should be with Apple for failing to keep the product you purchased up to date.
A quick look on the Strava website shows the app requires iOS 17 to operate on an iPhone. Your data is still available in other ways:
"If your device is no longer supported, you can still access Strava at strava.com from any browser or by logging in to your account on a compatible device. Your data, activities, and connections will all be there."
Well there’s an Apple desk top in Mrs W’s sowing room and I saw here with a lap top the other day that I didn’t know we had. But ask to use them I would be better off asking if I could buy top of the range Colnago.😂😂😂😂
Actually I didn’t purchase said iphone. Mrs W was the chief administrator at a construction firm and they got iPhones as part of their phone contract. So every year they would get a bunch of new phones so she would give me one of the previous years spares with the bosses approval.
Alas she is now retired.

Well sign into Strava in a browser on the iPad then. There's no reason that shouldn't work.

The critical mass effect. Paid subscribers represent about 0.5% of all users. Take away the 99.5% of users and what do you have left? Why would the paid subscribers stay if all their friends were no longer on it? Why would authorities pay for Strava data for planning? Why would investors continue to throw money at it, and keep it afloat? You do know that Strava is yet to make a profit, it keeps getting investor money thrown in.
It is primarily a social network, and without all the free users and their data, it is worth nothing.

I doesn’t as I said above it said above.
It says I need iOS 17 which clearly my iPad doesn’t have. As I’ve said earlier when I try to go in to zstrava via the emails I get sent it won’t let me log in.

I thought you were talking about trying to use the Strava application on the iPad and not being able to there either. Sounds like you need to beg to borrow one of the actual computers then!
It is rather amusing but it’s rather like when we use the ITV Iplayer sometimes it just stops working for a few hours. So why would spend money on an up grade to X when it does seem that great to start with.
