Struggling with clear protective film

Evening all,

I had my road bike professionally wrapped from new, but I didn't have the groupset crank arm installed yet with a 4iiii power meter, and when they did that, they removed the protective vinyl that the chap had applied - as expected to be fair.

That person sadly no longer provides a wrapping service, so I have had to have a crack at it myself.

I ordered some 3M tape off ebay, and I also had some backup wrap to use if required.

Things started off pretty well, I made myself a template from paper, then cut out the same shape on the 3M tape.
Used an alcohol pad thing to clean up the crank in question, and was ready to apply.

The first application went well, but I realised there was a faint 3M logo visible on the tape, and this is evidently after removing the backing layer that covers the sticky side.
Frustrating, as it was a perfect fit with NO bubbles :cursing:
I did think that perhaps there was a protective top layer that needed removing, which was the case for the cheaper tape, and that this top layer contained the ghostly 3M logo, but no matter what I tried, using nails, scissors, knives, I was unable to locate a join that would allow me to remove this potential top layer.

With the cheaper no brand tape it was tricky, but entirely manageable with some patience, but sadly when I fitted that the finish was shocking, so that had to come off as well

I bought the length of wrap off an ebay seller, and have contacted them, it was only December I bought it, and it's been in a jiffy bag since then, so not exposed to sun, or heat, but I'm wondering somehow if either there is no top layer, and the logo has somehow worked itself in a ghostly fashion into the tape, OR the top layer that should peel off is simply not peelable.

I must have spent about 15 minutes trying to find a top layer, cutting new bits, and trying every method I could think of with no success, it was very frustrating, and I must have ended up wasting an hour, achieving nothing apart from getting frustrated, instead of the 15 minutes I thought it was going to take me to wrap the damned thing.

So it's still not fitted to my best bike 💩

Does anyone have any recommendations for suppliers of tape they have used and had no issues?
I did message the seller, but I'm not anticipating much in the way of a reply.

This was the listing I bought from: 3M Tape
It was £15 for 500m X 100mm, so not cheap stuff!
I did bin it all in a huff, but then extracted it in case the seller replies, hopefully a faulty batch.
