I've a pair of Crane Creek. Rubber surface, so they are comfortable, and they extend above and below the bars so you don't need to change your position or the weight balance of the bike when moving to them.
I don't follow the cold hands bit. Like most people, I have aluminium bar ends on my MTB: if it's cold I wear gloves, which don't leak heat; if it's not cold enough for gloves, my hands stay warm anyway. Still, they are your hands, so why not get ally and wrap some insulation on, or glue a thin rubber grip on?
