My son is in the final year of his pyscology degree...and is now considering doing a master's, but in a different subject area.

Anybody know what the arrangements are for student/loans finance etc for a masters degree?

Since 2016 it's very common to get a loan.

Politely note that payback conditions are different to undergrad loans. The essence is the payments cut in much lower and generally speaking much, much more likely to pay back a postgraduate master's loan than an undergraduate master's or bachelor's loan.

Also people who have undergraduate masters' degrees are not eligible, which catches many out and is a bit of a bugbear on many parts of the internet.

It might sound a bit ridiculous to an older audience here but also many people don't realise they can't get a second master's loan and you might be surprised how incredibly commonly this is asked. So don't rush!

Last time I looked you could borrow about £11k. From this you’d have to pay fees with any remaining for living costs. Many are structured to allow part time work. Masters costs vary enormously from £5k to £15k for uk students depending on subject and universit. There are some big bursaries available t some places especially if you are an alumnus.
