Stumped by IQ test: help from uberbrain needed

Another of the questions:

Which is the odd word?

Through, thought, thorough, trough, tough, brought?

I chose trough as it breaks the alternating sequence of word endings: gh:ght:gh etc

The published answer is thorough as it is the only two-syllable word.

However, I don't think the compiler was as thorough as they should have been!

I just tried the word question on my 10 year old daughter and she went with "thorough" because of the extra syllable, and then looked at me as though I was stupid! (TBH its not that unusual a look!) I'll get her to take a look at the numbers one now....
